"Michael Snow said the artist must be exemplary, and I have always remembered that. There’s also the Sam Goldwyn line that says IM POSSIBLE. So the artist’s aspiration to be exemplary gets countered by the reality of the impossible. But I listen to Erik Satie very softly. And I would like, always, to have something very beautiful around me. That would be ideal."
- Arnaud Maggs, in conversation with Robert Enright, Border Crossings 2012

I was commissioned by Ottawa band Vedal Pearl to shoot a film portrait for them awhile ago. Here’s the result! It was lovely to work with talented, local, young artists.
Here’s part of Elizabeth’s reaction to the image:

"She told me to show up to the shoot with no make-up. I trusted her. The outcome is this hauntingly beautiful picture that does an incredible job at capturing the dark, moody essence of Vedal Pearl’s music."

Thanks for having me, Elizabeth & Daniel!

I’m very very excited to be the newest addition to STRAYLIGHT PRESS, with my publication Strength in Disorder

This photographic portfolio presents portraits taken of women who have suffered from and since recovered from an eating disorder; these portraits are paired with selections from interviews conducted with each woman about her illness. The text along each page provides for a first-hand commentary about the experience of an eating disorder, while each photograph confronts the viewer with the beauty and strength of each survivor.

The book is available for $15 on the STRAYLIGHT website! It’s signed by me, and things get better … shipping is free in Canada!

Support independent producers and increase awareness of eating disorders!

To check out the series in more detail, take a look here.
